If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.
Psalm 130:3-4 ESV
If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
Psalm 130:3-4 NIV
There is such honesty when we confess our sins. We look up to God- the One who made the heavens and earth- and let go of all the guilt, stress, mistakes, and hurt we carry. Let God take care of the stress around our lives as He keeps us safe day and night. If he kept a running list of each sin and mistake I have ever made, who could even stand? Yet He offers freely His love and forgiveness, no strings attached- and it is mind-blowing. The real, undeserved forgiveness is why we respect and stand in awe at His feet. We have His grace when we fall, and His mercy is there like a net in which we can repent and approach Him with confidence and open hearts. In 1 Peter 5:7, God freely gives the truth: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”- so go ahead and hand over the worry, guilt, and burdens to God, trust that with repentance comes forgiveness, and He truly cares for you. You do not have to let anything weigh you down.
Today's discussion question:
What is a heavy burden you carry, weighing you down, that God is ready to take from you? Can you picture yourself handing the burden over to God and your shoulders lifting to look up at Him in gratitude for the weight being released?
