Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul.
Psalm 66:16
This verse is a personal testimony. The psalmist had gone through deep trouble and experienced God’s deliverance. His first response was not to keep it to himself, but to tell others, “Come and hear what He has done for me.” Our blessings are not to be hoarded for ourselves and kept private. We should shout them out, boldly proclaim, and tell everyone. When God shows up in your life, whether it is forgiveness, rescue, comfort during grief, or strength when you are weak, then tell your story. Share what He has done for your soul, to glorify Him and bring others closer to Him.
You do not need big words or a fascinating story; God’s faithfulness is shown when you simply say, “Come and hear.” Who in your life right now needs to hear “what God has done for your soul”? Will you make time to tell your story this week?
In 2 Samuel 7-13 and the “newspaper” account in 1 Chronicles 17-20, God kept His covenant with David, promising an eternal kingdom that will come from his lineage a promise that points to Jesus. David showed kindness to Mephibosheth and wins battles against Israel’s enemies. But David failed, he fell into a downward spiral of sins with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah. The consequences made a rippling effect, but God’s mercy shined through the failures.
Throughout the list of psalms this week, there was a range of emotional ups and downs. We read about faith, joy, thanksgiving and praise, there were honest confessions, forgiveness, and urgent cries for help. We saw God’s character on display and the people ascending to praise and worship Him. Each chapter and psalm had His truth: God is sovereign, faithful and gives us so much mercy.
