Day 134

Today's Reading:

Psalm 97
Psalm 98
Psalm 99

Psalms #93-99 are grouped together because they are known as the “Enthronement Psalms” or “The Lord Reigns” psalms. They all celebrate with joy how God is King, and reigns as the sovereign over all the earth.

Psalm 97 focuses on God’s awesome power. It shows the world in awe, seeing His righteousness, justice, fire, and lightning.

Psalm 98 calls for everyone to celebrate with joy. The earth sings a “new song”, because He has saved us.

Psalm 99 proclaims God is holy, yet He forgives His people and judges fairly.

These psalms were not just for Israel; they are a call on the whole earth and all the nations to praise God as our King. If God truly reigns as King in every situation, how should that feel in every situation, in each of the changes you make, the way you worship, the way you face fear, and the way you live your life each day?

In 1 Chronicles, David carefully organized hundreds of musicians to lead worship with harps, lyres, and cymbals, and in Psalm 68, we are told to “sing to God” and “sing praises to His name.” How are you using music to praise the Lord right now? Whether it is singing in the car, playing an instrument, or listening to worship songs, do you have a favorite praise song?

Psalm 97
God is awesome. He reigns as the King over everything. He rules with perfect righteousness and justice. He is majestic and surrounded by clouds and darkness. That was to hide His glory, like the veil to the throne in the tabernacle. God is powerful, and His fire destroys the enemy. The heavens even proclaim His righteousness, and all on the earth will see His glory. God’s own people in Jerusalem (Zion and Judah) celebrate His judgment. Those who worship idols and false gods will be put to shame. It is simple: if you love the Lord, then you must hate evil. Praise His holy name, and He will bring light and joy to your heart.

Psalm 98
God is all-powerful. He won the victories by His own powerful hand. All the earth, not just Israel, is called to see His righteousness and universal salvation. Shout and create music with harps, trumpets, horns, and singing. His entire creation, from the oceans to rivers and the mountains, all clap and sing praises to the Lord. For He will judge the world with fairness.

Psalm 99
God is holy and faithful to His people. He sits on His throne, above the Cherubim, and everyone should be in awe before Him. He judges by His power with fairness and justice. We should worship Him at His “footstool” in humble devotion (like Mary sitting at Jesus’ feet in Luke 10:38-42). God answered the prayers of the great leaders: Moses, Aaron, and Samuel. He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud in the wilderness, and they obeyed His laws (see Exodus 33:9, Numbers 12:5-6). You, God, gave

them mercy and grace by forgiving their sins and punishing their sins with just consequences. Worship the Lord our God because He is holy.

Today's Discussion question:

In 1 Chronicles, David carefully organized hundreds of musicians to lead worship with harps, lyres, and cymbals, and in Psalm 68, we’re told to “sing to God” and “sing praises to His name.” How are you using music to praise the Lord right now? Whether it’s singing in the car, playing an instrument, listening to worship songs, do you have a favorite praise song?
