So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
Genesis unfolds God’s covenant promise to bless the nations from Abraham’s seed. Through the initial call to leave Haran, battles, childbirth and the birth of Ishmael, humans seem to fall short and need Gods grace. Then on Mount Moriah, it is the turn of events. Abraham is prepared to offer his beloved son Isaac as a sacrifice, but God intervenes and provides a ram caught in the thicket. Abraham names the area “The LORD Will Provide”. That one moment, of pure faith, shines for everything to follow. Deliverance and life come from God’s provisions. God Himself will see through to the Messianic line and beyond. God Himself will provide the Lamb. The covenant rests only on God so the promised blessing can reach the ends of the earth.
Today's discussion question:
Abraham didn’t have to sacrifice Isaac because God provided a substitute—and centuries later on a hill near that very mountain, God provided Jesus, the true Lamb. When you think about God giving His own Son so we could live, what stirs most in your heart this time around and what has stirred you the most this week?
