When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
Psalm 94:19
This is such a comforting verse, as pure anxiety is one of the most common human emotions. In our fast-paced, tech-driven world, stress and worry seem to bombard us constantly. Yet, we are given hope. When anxiety was great, the psalmist had comfort in God, which turned the anxiety into joy.
When your heart or mind races and will not rest, turn to God. Rub a small cross in your pocket as a quiet reminder of His presence and rest given. Memorize this verse and speak it over your fears. Put on a praise song and let God’s truth envelope you. He is the greatest- yesterday, today, and forever. He is powerful and replaces all anxiety with deep joy.
What is your go-to for yourself, or what small act can you share with others when anxiety reaches up to take hold? A verse, a song, a reminder to have God step in when our limits reach new heights?
These passages in Psalms weave together the themes of wisdom, trust, God’s Word, comfort, and love. Psalms 111–119 show the Lord’s greatness, righteousness, and especially the life-giving power of Scripture, with Psalm 119 declaring God’s Word as light, comfort, and treasure.
Psalms 37, 71, and 94 guide us with encouragement to trust God instead of fretting, to hope in Him through every season of life (even old age), and to find joy in His love when we are anxious. In 1 Kings 1–4 and 2 Chronicles 1, Solomon humbly asked for wisdom to lead God’s people, resulting in God’s blessing and prosperity.
Finally, Song of Songs 1–5:1 celebrated the beauty, passion, and purity of the covenant love in marriage. A love story regarding the growing relationship between a husband and wife that also points to Christ’s deep, pursuing love for His people. Together, these Scriptures lead us to love God’s Word, trust Him completely, seek His wisdom, find comfort during anxiety, and rejoice in His faithful love.
