"I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps".
Jeremiah 10:23

True peace comes from surrendering to the Lord. That is where we get humble clarity. There are so many chapters in the Bible on idolatry and the foolishness of trusting in our own power and knowledge. Jeremiah gave a confession. We are not designed by God to be the controller of our lives. Trying to control each and every detail of our lives (and the lives of others) is frustrating, exhausting, and leads to anxiety and wandering from the Lord. Judah learned this when they chased after false gods and broken cisterns.

Yet, this verse is not about our downfalls or limitations. It is God’s invitation to grace. The God who formed us, knows us, and gives us a purpose is calling us to trust Him. We must surrender complete control to discover the peace that comes from walking with Him. Do you live with humble clarity? Do you allow God to guide your steps daily?

The prophets cried out to God with the coming judgment, the Israelites’ sins, and the injustice around them. Habakkuk wondered and questioned God over why evil seemed to prosper. Joel called for repentance with the oncoming locust plague and the “Day of the Lord.” Then Jeremiah faithfully spoke God’s parables and warnings while living in obedience to Him. Through it all, there was judgment, a call to return to God, and hope for those who trust in the Lord that they will be saved.
