Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
John 1:12

This passage reflects why the light in John 1:4-9 matters to you. We do not climb a ladder to get into the Father’s family; we are given a place. Not by bloodline, not by knowing Him from Nazareth, and not by winning the wilderness test. Jesus came, was baptized, and took our sins at the first step into the water. He takes away sin as the Lamb. This is the living water. It is a gift with the name of “child of Mine” on it. Whatever comes your way, whatever the day brings, as long as you have received Him, then you already belong at His table.

The darkness fades away when His light is near to guide. Light shines in the darkness, and darkness does not win. Jesus proved that when the devil had tempted Him. Darkness does not fade on its own. It only fades because He is near, because He came close.

The Word became flesh; we cannot earn our seat at the table. Take this moment and pin it as grace. You belong and are worthy; you are enough, because He gave you that gift, not because you earned it. Give quiet thanks for belonging to the most important family worth knowing, and for His light, that we are called His children.

Today's discussion question:

Who first told you that you had to earn a seat at the table—and how does John 1:12 answer that voice?
