God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’" Exodus 3:14

We finished up the book of Job, where Bildad, friend #3 gave a very short speech saying that no one was perfect and God is huge and holy and we are just tiny worms. Job then retorted with sarcasm and profound thoughts on God’s power. When God finally showed up in a whirlwind to humble Job with questions on “Where you there when I made the stars, can you arm-wrestle a leviathan? God was gentle but commanding on trusting Him.

In both Psalms 19 and 29, David showed how God’s laws and words are better than the sky and sweeter than honey. His voice, so powerful and majestic, that it shakes the wilderness.

We started on Exodus, where the new Pharaoh, who was terrified of the growing Israelite population, ordered all of their baby boys to be killed, in hopes of killing the future “king”. God protected Moses in a basket and the Pharaoh’s daughter wound up adopting him. That was a plot twist. Moses grew up and fled to Egypt, only to talk to a burning bush. God told him to go back to Pharaoh and say, “Let my people go”. Moses panicked and gave all kinds of excuses, but God promised to be with him and sent him off with miracles in his pocket.

The thunderous glory of God from creation to the whirlwind in Job that left his suffering soul speechless in awe, and back to Moses at the blazing bush was the same God that simply states “I AM WHO I AM.” This is not just a name, but the essence in all that we read. There is no past or future, but an eternal present I AM, the unchanging power that created earth and still meets us where we are with our fears and excuses. No matter how chaotic, stressful, or joyous life can feel, know that the God that was with the Israelites is the same God that is with us today. Reflect on His love for you.

Today's discussion question:

No matter how crazy, stressful, or joyous life can feel right now, just know that the God who was with the Israelites in the wilderness is the same God that is with us today. Reflect on His love for you.
