 Genesis 8:21 ESV

The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.

In the beginning, God created the perfect heavens and earth in 6 days. He fills it with life including the first humans, Adam and Eve. By not trusting in God’s Word, they brought sin and judgement to humanity. The wicked ways grew to a point that God wiped out all but Noah’s family and started again with a promise to never destroy the earth, putting that beautiful rainbow in the sky as a reminder. People continued to sin, and in their pride, they built the Tower of Babel, but God knew their hearts and scattered them across the nations. The 3 Psalms this week, 104, 8, and 12 remind us about how amazing God is and that we, being created in His image, are given free will- which usually leads to the human nature of sinning. Yet, God is there with a promise to protect His people forever. He made it all, it is good, and our gracious God is still in control ready to bless every nation through Jesus.

Today's discussion question:
In Genesis 8:21, the verse states God will "never again curse the ground because of humans" despite knowing "every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood." How does this show a shift in God's approach to human sin after the Flood compared to His response before it (e.g., Eden or pre-Flood corruption)?
